Out of memory on new cluster config

Just set up PetaSAN on 3 VMs (hyper-v) and created 2TB on each node, each node has 16GB RAM allocated, cluster is up with no apparent issues.  I haven't set up iSCSI targets yet and left it for a day, came back and all three VMs were off(?) and one node had the following text below the usual grey petasan info screen after bringing them back up:

<[116592.501403] [ T3295] Out of memory: Killed process 2788 (ceph-mon) ... total-vm:15097772kB, anon-rss: 14809552kB, file-rss: 0kB ..

were the vms put to sleep by the os ?  else can you monitor the mem usage during the day.
