The generic way, is that you keep a spreadsheet with all disk, their serial numbers and their physical slot locations. In PetaSAN you can view and disk serial number so you can associate the physical slot.
Else you would need to rely on hardware specific tools or BIOS that knows about your particular slots and can display disk serial number.
